A Weekend in Broken Bow: How to Spend 48 Hours in Oklahoma’s Forest Playground

Day 1 — Cabin Fever (the Good Kind)

Check-In & Get Cozy

Most cabins in Broken Bow are nestled right in the Ouachita Forest, so once you check in, you’re immediately surrounded by trees, quiet, and the occasional deer. Settle in, light the fireplace, and claim the best bedroom before your friends do.

Dinner: Local or Homemade

You can go full DIY with a big pasta night at your cabin (bonus points if you brought garlic bread and wine), or head into Hochatown for dinner. Favorites include:

  • Grateful Head Pizza – quirky, delicious, and a local staple

  • The Hochahut – quick bites with Oklahoma flair

Nighttime: Hot Tub + Games

It’s basically a rule — you have to end your first night in the hot tub under the stars. Add in a deck of cards, a few board games, or a round of Cards Against Humanity and you’ve got yourself a night.

Day 2 — Adventure Mode On

Morning: Coffee & Trails

Start with coffee on the deck, then head to Beavers Bend State Park for hiking. The Friends Trail Loop and Skyline Trail offer great views, but there are plenty of easier walks if you’re not feeling like a mountain goat.

Midday: Lake Life

Broken Bow Lake is perfect for kayaking, paddleboarding, or renting a pontoon boat. Not feeling the water? Try zip-lining or horseback riding nearby.

Afternoon: Brewery or Winery Hop

Hochatown has a handful of local spots for beer and wine tasting — Mountain Fork Brewery is a favorite for craft beer lovers.

Evening: Grill & Chill

Back at the cabin, throw steaks on the grill, whip up baked potatoes, and gather for one last big meal. Finish the night with s’mores by the fire pit — because that’s the law in Broken Bow.

Day 3 — Slow Mornings & Goodbyes

If you’ve got time before checkout, make a big group breakfast — pancakes, bacon, mimosas, the works. Squeeze in one more coffee on the porch and soak up the forest views before heading back to reality.

Broken Bow Tips & Tricks

  • Bring groceries — There’s a small Walmart and Pruett’s Grocery nearby, but stocking up before you arrive can save time.

  • Book early — Cabins fill up fast, especially in spring and fall.

  • Pack layers — Mornings and nights can be chilly even in summer.

  • Don’t forget games & a speaker — Cabin nights are made for them.

Whether you spend your weekend hiking every trail or never leaving the cabin, Broken Bow delivers the reset you didn’t know you needed — all wrapped up in pine trees, fresh air, and the smell of something delicious on the grill.
